What Happened to Fetty Wap?

Back in 2014 Fetty Wap made a HUGE impact on rap with his platinum single “Trap Queen”, which accumulated over 570 millions views on youtube.  It peaked on the Billboard Hot 100 Top charts in May of 2015.  He later would release another single which was the Song of Summer 2015, “679 feat. Monty.”  This would later lead him to signing with 300 Entertainment which is an association with Atlantic Records.  He later would release his debut album in September 2015 which would reach the number 1 spot on the Billboard Top 200.  It was the year of the Remy Boys and it seemed like nothing was going to stop them, that is until Fetty’s reckless behavior really started to take a toll on his career.  He would be flirting with the law for 2 years beating charge after charge but the most notable charges were back in 2016 when the Patterson native was arrested on drinking and driving and drag racing at speeds of over 100MPR.  He also would rack up 15 additional charges in November of 2017 when police arrested the rapper on multiple charges, including reckless endangerment, illegal speed, DWI, reckless driving and aggravated unlicensed operation of a vehicle.  This would be a BIG blow to the rappers reputation and his career.  During this time he did not release any music up until 2016 with Philadelphia rapper PnB Rock where they linked up on a mixtape titled “Money, Hoes, & Flows”.  This was a very weak mixtape on the part of the Patterson rapper. He also tried to make a comeback with “For My Fans Pt.2″ which dropped in 2017 and it yet again fell short not getting a great review by HotNewHipHop where it rated the mixtape 2 stars out of 5.  They later interviewed Fetty and it was revealed that the artist states that he does not take his time on music anymore like he used to back when he was on the rise.  It is a real shame for this artist because I really enjoyed his music at one point in my life and now he is an afterthought when I think of rap now.  I will say his feature on 6ix9ine’s “KEKE” has been the best I have heard of him in a long time.  Time will tell what happens down the road with the New Jersey native, but for now we can only hope he goes back to find his sound that people fell in love with 4 years ago.  Below is a quote from Fetty Wap during an interview with HotNewHipHop talking about his work ethic and this just sums up why he has fallen so far off in the rap game.

Honestly, I don’t spend that much time in the studio,” he said. When I first started doing music, I was in the studio every day just trying to build my portfolio. But now, even though I haven’t totally mastered my craft, I’m at a pretty high level. Can’t nobody do what Fetty Wap does. So when I go to the studio, it may be four to five hours max, probably three days out the week. I used to go to the studio for 10 to 15 hours, and I would do five to 10 songs. Now I go for four to five hours and I do, like, 15 to 20 songs. I’m an ad lib guy. Most people know me for my ad libs.”
